Almost all sex toys exported come from factories in Guangdong, southern China, and Zhejiang in the east, said Jiang, general manager of Bestgreen, a Chinese manufacturer of sex toys in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

"Fifty percent of our customers are the United States and 30 percent are from Europe," said Jiang, who entered the sex toy industry in 2003. Last year, the turnover of Bestgreen was between $ 2 million and $ 3 million.

"We were originally a trading company before commencing the business of adult products, so when we receive requests for vibrators of a U.S. customer, decided to enter the market."

Jiang produces different types of sex toys including vibrators, fetish clothing and dentures. They are exported at prices ranging from 50 cents to $ 100. Vibrators, for example, are sold to dealers for about $ 1 and arrive at retail around $ 10 up.

"Most of the profit goes to the distributors and importers. Our profit margin is only 7 percent, "said Jiang.

The sex toy industry in China with more than 1,000 manufacturers in recent years earned nearly $ 2 billion per year.

A report released by China Market Research Center reports that only the first five months of this year, revenue reached $ 940 million.

Products to increase sexual arousal, stimulants such as condoms, accounting for 21.5 percent of market sales, the report said.

Now, the trend is to make more functional products with physiological characteristics, which means that a product must have more stimulation to arouse sexual feelings.

Ma said that in terms of sexual culture, China has also come a long way since the first sex shop opened its door in Beijing in 1993.

The erotic products are very useful as an aid to couples and singles in search of a healthier sex life.
