In Sexuality Clinic, Hospital das Clinicas (HC), Faculty of Medicine, USP (USP), about 70% of women referred to the sector have a lack of sexual desire.

The remainder of patients with problems ranging from sexual dysfunction to the clinic has vaginismus (vaginal muscle contraction that prevents the penetration) and pain during intercourse.

According to the coordinator of the clinic, the gynecologist Elsa Gay, the vast majority of these patients are premenopausal, phase transition between the non-reproductive and reproductive period of women.

However, the doctor suggests the presence of young women who also have problems related to sexual dysfunction.

Psychological problems

Elsa says that in 90% of cases the problem is psychological and not organic. "Drugs such as antidepressants may even inhibit sexual desire," says the expert, adding that there is no medication to increase female libido that has scientifically proven its effectiveness.

"When sex fails to provide pleasure, is a sign that something is wrong," says gynecologist, noting that modern women often leave the daily worries interfere with affective relationship.

"The rush, the stress of work and concern for children and the house are great villains of sexuality. When there are crises in the relationship, the woman closes to your sex life ", he said.
