A book of short stories used in Jundiai, in São Paulo, for high school students of the state has caused controversy because of passages considered erotic. Some parents want until the book "One Hundred Best Brazilian Short Story of the Century", which contains texts by authors such as Machado de Assis, Clarice Lispector and Mario de Andrade, is collected from classrooms.

The story "Obscenities For A Housewife" by Ignacio de Loyola Brandao, tells the story of a woman who receives letters from a stranger. The letters describe in detail moments of sexual acts. The problem, according to the parents, are the words used to describe these acts.

Gilberto Aparecido da Rosa, father of two teenage twins aged 17, appealed to prosecutors. For him, the story is inappropriate for students. "I think this language is too foul for the academic standards. I think young people do not deserve such a language in the schools, "says Rose.

The teenagers say they have been embarrassed by the situation created in the classroom because of this tale. "It has the kind of play that is normal for young people. They start playing with this sort of thing. And even if the school delivery of such a material is the same thing as giving them freedom to start playing, "says the girl Juliana Rose.

The teacher and writer Douglas Tufano says that the tale is part of Brazilian literature indicated for vestibular and sees no problems in reading, but believes that to avoid confusion, there must be the intermediary of teachers. "They need to do preparatory work, talk, explain. Otherwise, students who are still immature in relation to reading literature can lead to other fields, "said Tufano.

For the psychologist Eduardo Menga, there are no problems in this approach that deals with sexuality. "Since the book is already inserted in the [school], the best in this situation is, however that may be opposition, to face and look at it the most natural way possible."

In a statement, State Department of Education reports that the book was considered by educators and critics suitable for students from private schools and, therefore, can also be used by public school students. Also according to the note, the book was reviewed and approved by a committee of professors from various universities. The prosecutor must consider the request within five days.
