Pornography celebrates violence against women, says American sociologist.
New York (USA) - The Internet, the growth of the pornography industry and the marketing that it promotes are, according to the American sociologist Gail Dines, responsible for much of the episodes of violence against women.
In his latest book, "Pornland" (Pornolândia), recently launched in the U.S., Gail says that the proliferation of pornography on the Internet has increased the power of this industry:
"The porn industry has capacity to lobby politicians to wage legal battles and use public relations to influence the debate. (...) His sophisticated and well funded marketing machine seeks to shape the image of the industry as something positive, "he believes.
In assessing the feminist and professor of sociology and gender Wheelock College in Boston, it is impossible to see pornographic images without being influenced, "especially images with which you masturbate"
"The kids see pornography for the first time at age 11, they are introduced to this world of sexual brutality and cruelty before his sexuality is fully developed," he explains.
She still defends the need for a "counter-attack erotic porn culture." "Eroticism, unlike porn, celebrates sexuality respectful and egalitarian, based on connection and passion," apart.
